Lundin Hoping For More Good Luck In China !

SHENZHEN, China – 19th of October, 2007 – The student has finally become the teacher ! After 8 years as the « younger » driver on the Emirates Team, Thani Al Qamzi takes over as oldest member of the two driver team with  lead driver and defending World Champion Scott Gillman recovering in the Emirates from  an illness that will see him miss at least a month of the 2007 schedule.

« I wish Scott was here and he will be sorely missed this weekend, » said the driver from Abu Dhabi. « We will try to win again this time for him. »

With the native of Los Angeles, California missing his first race in 90 starts, young driver Ahmad Al Hameli will move into the number 1 boat looking for his 2nd top 10 finish on the season.

As Al Qamzi pursues his 2nd straight victory, another driver, Swedish star Pierre Lundin of the Comparato Racing Team based out of Italy looks to continue his fine driving this season coming after a 4th place finish 2 weeks ago in Xi’an. Pierre looks as if  he is getting more and more comfortable as the season rolls along.

« We have finally put together a great package this season and I hope to show off my talents as the season rolls along, » said Pierre. « We are building our confidence every lap we put together and are still in with a shot with the championship. »

All drivers including Al Qamzi and Lundin will have to figure a way around the very short and tricky 1.59 kilometer course that will tax the drivers especially in Saturdays qualifying sessions that will put the all important pole position in order when the day ends. The two lap solo « Shootout » will be more important than ever to get right since beginning number one will be key for a successful Sunday’s event.

The weather is expected to have nothing but warm sunshine all weekend  with temperatures in the hi 20’s surrounding Lake Shenzhen with tens of thousands of race fans lining the 5 turn course. With Scott Gillman out of the race, only two drivers in the starting line-up will be ex-World Champion’s with this season now maybe marking a new beginning to the sport. It all begins tomorrow morning at 10 :00 local time with the first practice session followed by two timed sessions leading to the end of the days shootout for the final 6 positions.

Great drama near the South China Sea as the 4th Round of the U.I.M. F1 World Championship for power boating begins in earnest in lovely Shenzhen, China.
