SELIO: THE COMPETITON IS GETTING TOUGHER!
F1H2O

EVIAN (France) - Friday, 26 June - Finland's Two-time World Champion Sami Selio will line up in Evian in what he calls the 'second edition' of what was, is, a relatively new boat and eager to get some points on the board after his spectacular coming together with Ahmed Al Hameli and dramatic race exit at the season-opener. "After Qatar the boat went back to BABA [in Italy] where first we had to evaluate not just the damage, but also consider how the boat was running with the modifications we had already made before the crash."

"I think we learned a lot in that race. Maybe the boat was a little short for me. So as well as the obvious repairs we have made some additional changes, played around a little with the measurements so it really is a different boat now, a second edition of what we had. It should be better for me but it always depends on conditions, and you never know how it will behave. This is a big lake, can be rough or can be smooth."

Asked how he will approach the race and outcome. "We have to be smart, be clever. From here we go to Porto and we don't have any time for any more repairs! We have to think a bit, not do anything silly. Qatar was rough and simply a racing accident. No one was to blame. I was not pushing over the limit, Ahmed was driving safely, but these things happen."

"For sure the podium is a minimum target. It always is and I am always disappointed if we don't achieve it.  But the competition is very tough. Everyone has had time to work on their boats, refresh things upgrade engines so it will be interesting, but hard for sure."

Talking about his young protégé Filip Roms, Selio was very positive. "Filip is doing very well. He improves a lot every time he gets out on the water, driving very solidly and finishing in good positions. In qualifying maybe unlikely to be up there unless it is rough but in the races he shows he is an excellent driver."

And his view on team orders if the youngster was challenging [him] for position. "No such thing as team orders. I don't like that. I had it sometimes in my early career. Yes you have to think if you are fighting each other for position and maybe a win or Championship is at stake. But we race [each other] as hard as we can, but the absolute golden rule is not to take each other out."
