SZYMURA WINS F-4S RACE 1 – POLE SITTER AL QAMZI CRASHES OUT
F4-S

Thursday, 1 October, LIUZHOU (China): Germany's Mike Szymura extended his lead in the F-4S Trophy Championship taking his third win of the season in race 1 in Liuzhou, with pole-sitter Rashed Al Qamzi's race ending at turn 1 on lap 1 with a spectacular crash and bringing out the yellow flag.

For the third straight race the F1 Atlantic driver stole the advantage away from the pole-sitter off the pontoon and was clear when the carnage unfolded behind him.

AL Qamzi was trying to make up lost ground and fend off the challenge of Team Sweden's Briney Rigby when he hooked violently and rolled over at the first turn, Rigby and Al Qamzi's Abu Dhabi teammate Mohamed Al Mehairbi managing to steer around the incident. CTIC China's Wu Bingchen was not so fortunate hooking and stopping and then towed off the course.

Szymura led from the restart and was followed by Rigby and Mad Croc's Ferdinand Zandbergen who moved up into second to challenge the race leader on lap 6.

Ferdinand briefly grabbed the lead on lap 9 when Szymura's engine spluttered, but gave it up to him a lap later as his race started to unravel, an overheating engine dropping him down to fourth then sixth and eventually calling it a day on lap 16.

Behind race winner Szymura Rigby held off the challenge from Al Mehairbi with Christian Cesati coming home in fourth for Motorglass F1 ahead of Team EMIC's Joakim Halvorsen, Mansoor Al Mansoori the last to take the chequered flag.
