TRASK JOINS TEAM SWEDEN AS CANADIAN ROOKIE KYLE MASKALL LANDS CHINA CTIC TEAM SEAT
F1H2O

Thursday, September 11: Two teams have changed their driver line-ups in the gap between the opening round of the 2025 UIM F1H2O World Championship on Sumatra’s Lake Toba and the forthcoming Grand Prix of Shanghai in China on October 2nd-4th.

Australian Grant Trask has parted company with the China CTIC Team, for whom he finished an excellent sixth overall in August’s Grand Prix of Indonesia, as a stand-in for the recuperating Brent Dillard. Trask has joined Team Sweden to partner Jonas Andersson, with Johan Österberg reverting to his role as a technician with Andersson’s team.

That move created a vacancy at the China CTIC Team, as Dillard continues to recover on the sidelines from back surgery. His place in China will be taken by the experienced Canadian racer Kyle Maskall, who will be making his debut appearance in the UIM F1H2O World Championship.

The 27-year-old is based out of the town of Chilliwack on the Fraser River in British Colombia and will be the second Canadian on the tour after the current championship leader Rusty Wyatt, the winner of round one in Indonesia.

Maskall has been competing in the upper echelons of North American powerboat racing for seven years and was on the grid in last year’s North American Formula One Powerboat Championship competing under the HNR Racing banner with engines built by Ron Anderson and Mike Nass.

Away from powerboat racing, Maskall works as an automotive glass technician for the family business and admits that watching his father Mike racing gave him the yearning to compete in the sport. Kyle is also interested in motocross, mountain biking, wake surfing and jetski racing.
