Monday, 3 October, LIUZHOU (China): Yesterday’s final session in BRM official qualifying was captivating, with shared times and just hundredths of a second separating three boats. Ahmed Al Hameli’s win was also the most popular and enjoyed by everyone in the paddock. "It’s been a long time and is a great day for the team and especially for Ahmed,” said team principal Scott Gillman. “He’s been struggling for the last four years since his operation and this is a great moment for him. His comeback has taken a while but he’s fought through it and he did a brilliant job in qualifying and hopefully he can go on and finish on the podium today.
“It was great to see him get the pole and keep it. Unfortunately he had it in Harbin but he went a little wide and clipped a course mark and they took his time away. He showed he has the speed and he’s worked his way back to build up his stamina and it’s step-by-step for us to the end of the year.
Al Hameli’s pole was the tenth of his career and today he will look to convert that into a seventh Grand Prix victory. “After Harbin I think this proves I have the speed and I am very happy for the team. Today is a different day, the race is different to pole and it will be difficult and I am sure it will be a big battle. But I am ready to fight to win.”
